This is straight from the SRES website:
By earning the SRES® Designation, your REALTOR® has demonstrated the necessary knowledge and expertise to counsel clients age 50+ through major financial and lifestyle transitions involved in relocating, refinancing, or selling the family home. Your SRES® has received special training, gets regular updates, and is prepared to offer the options and information needed in making life changing decisions.
Which brings me to my point - SRES members should know about the reverse mortgage - both for purchase and to refinance. There so many benefits for both the age 62+ buyer with a reverse mortgage. Of course, it must fit in with a sound financial plan. I ask questions about who inherits the home, are they counting on that equity, how long do they plan on living in the property, and many more questions. Reverse mortgages sometimes get a bad rap because the specialist fails to ask all the questions. Properly planned and implemented, a reverse mortgage can avoid nasty financial surprises and ensure a fine quality of life as people live into their 80's and beyond.
My sole focus is on reverse mortgages. I have 8 years experience in mortgages, but the last three solely on reverse mortgages. I work closely with financial planners, estate planners, home health care providers, elder law attorneys; I am president of Porter COunty TRIAD, a senior advocacy group that works with th County Sheriff and the Attorney General's office.
